Terminology¶
For additional terminology please see chapter 2. Terminology in SMIP Architecture and Functionality Overview .
Entity: everything that may be monitored, affected and modeled in SMIP. The most common entity is for example a real-world smart device, sensor, actuator or even a space. However, entities are not restricted to real-word only and may represent data that originates from other sources like: Web Services, GUI interactions, mathematical expressions etc.
SMIP Agent: is an IoT gateway typically running inside a hardware “box” on premises. It is connected to its entities trough various hardware / software interfaces and protocols.
